You can look at passion without identifying yourself with it, or condemning it. But, Sir, you haven’t even taken the first step – to look. I want to understand myself, myself being a very complex entity – a living thing, not a dead thing! I want to understand that. How do I look at myself? – I have to learn to look at myself. To look at a child I mustn’t condemn him or adore him, I must have the eyes to look at him with care, with affection; not the affection which says, ‘he’s my baby’ but to look at him. In the same way I have to look at myself; and part of myself is this violence; and anger is of this violence. I say, now I am angry, I have known anger – can I look at it? – Krishnamurti, Talks and Dialogues Saanen 1967
