Over the next few weeks we will be sharing some of Rinpoche’s recent teachings on the topic of ‘Training the Mind in Compassion’, called lojong in Tibetan. Rinpoche began this series of teachings in April at the UK Easter retreat in Haileybury. He then continued to teach on this topic at a number of different retreats throughout the spring.
The lojong teachings are extraordinary teachings on compassion. They go to the heart of compassion in a very practical way. His Holiness the Dalai Lama says:
“The lojong tradition stands as the heart of the Buddha’s message of peace. It teaches us how to regard others with the dignity and care that they deserve, and also how to transcend the limitations of ego-grasping.”
The first post, available now, gives a basic explanation of what the word lojong means. The article is edited from Rinpoche’s live teachings and together with recent video extracts aims to share some of the flavour of these incredible teachings. Atisha Dipamkara Shrijñana (982-1054) was a great Indian master and scholar who brought the lojong teachings to Tibet.
